Pela perfection

So guess what? You can get phone cases that biodegrade. Yep, you read that right. It’s probably something many of us have never thought about but when you throw away that old tatty phone case, it will likely end up in landfill and contribute to our formidable plastic pollution!

An environmentally conscious company, Pela, has released a phone case that is BPA-free, eco-friendly, child-safe and 100% compostable. The case is made up of compostable bioplastic elastomers and oil seed flax straw materials that break down when exposed to moisture and heat for a long period of time i.e a composting environment. Many ask whether the case will degrade from day to day use and the answer is no, though Pela offer a free replacement if your case does begin to biodegrade within a year of purchasing. The materials used in this product also have natural shock absorbing properties and claim to match up to that of a standard plastic case. Just don’t abuse your poor phone.

On top of all this, your money will be contributing to various charities across the world including ‘Save the Waves’ who work with local communities to protect coastal ecosystems.

The bad news is that they only have cases available for iPhones which is SUCH a bummer for me. I’m not an Apple fan. However Pela have promised that they are releasing their amazing biodegradable cases for other phone and tablet models soon. I’ll be here eagerly waiting!
